I’m interested to see what happens during trial when the prosecution relies on unsavoury details about him, and whether the girlies will still be able to woobify and babygirlify him.
Or if his selection of insurance “because it ticks all the boxes” reveals a motive that has nothing to do with propaganda of the deed or altruism.
The guy has been objectified from all angles - I hope he can collect enough through his legal fund before people turn on him for being a human being.
The Gurwinders and Maxes of the world however are acting exactly like parasites at the moment, something that Mangione seemed to actually despise. Full circle!
So, while the fact that he engaged with them can be puzzling / interesting, we only know what "they" shared from those conversations. It could be that he held similar views, it could be that again, similarly to his reading of Kaczynski, he might like engaging with rather "intense opinions" from a desire to understand better. We will probably never know. In any case, I agree with you, there are no absolutes, no "perfect" human, no "perfect" action, whether we want to admit it or not, like it or not.
Salam's comment is also insightful - from Luigi's digital footprint we know he (like a lot of Gen Z men) was concerned with masculinity in modern society. I wouldn't be surprised if Luigi (if he really did kill BT) was motivated by a sort of hero complex - "killing Thompson is the heroic/masculine thing to do". While some would consider that thinking noble, I wouldn't be surprised if the prosecution used it as a chance to paint him as a narcissist of some kind.
Great insight. Makes me think of Max's piece "Why You Should Consider K***ing Yourself." His argument is one of taking action instead of sitting on the fence, as abominable and disgusting as that is. It reminds me of other comments he's made in his Substack advocating for "action." That if you're going to complain about something, then you need to do something about it (which sounds rational as I write it, but I'm sanitizing it).
He seems to truth seek like he conquered his education. a+ all star!!
Idk, I just feel compassion for him. The more I read, and see what he read. Perhaps I do infantilize him. (I’ve got 2 “boys” in their twenties) the way he communicated with M and G-shame on both- seems innocent and naive.
If he’s innocent, scary. And there’s not much I’d put past this corrupt system. If he’s not, it’s easy for me to see how he got there.
Finally made a substack account to be able to comment (this doesn’t count as social media right? My new years resolution is safe). Really well said! I am really enjoying your takes on this whole saga.
